Five months after the first case of COVID-19 was alerted in my country, I have been able to read a significant number of texts related to the pandemic, both international and local; assorted fonts as allowed by our technology.
I am the
father of two beautiful children, a 12-year-old daughter and a 9-year-old son,
who I have been able to enjoy at home.
After a
while of seeing COVID-19 issues, as the reading has somehow cauterized the
relevance of knowing how many new cases appear in the country. But after a
self-analysis I realize that it is not due to lack of interest in the subject,
on the contrary, it is due to the distrust that has been generated in terms of
handling the situation and the certainty of the numbers, a situation that is
not only of a government, if not of all governments worldwide.
Another
fact that bothered me the most in terms of management is having realized by my
own means that a year before the pandemic, in my country a significant number
of deaths from respiratory causes derived from an atypical flu of the time had
been documented, with a similar accumulation of deaths to those obtained from
COVID in the current year, but the difference is that both for the population
and for the media this fact went "almost" unnoticed, no one
"ripped" their clothes by the families who lost their relatives, as
now they do for the deceased from COVID-19.
I tell you
that I am not a health professional or anything like that, but if I tried to
inform myself strongly and debate with people to draw my own conclusions on how
to cope in the midst of this situation, my conclusions were highly questioned
and were even mocked by Certain people and relatives, as well as being labeled
irresponsible, however, I made the decision to live or die under my convictions
and not by that of the masses. As my favorite Frank Sinatra song "my
way" narrates.
Regardless
of how governments have handled the pandemic, the virus is there, it spreads
and it is here to stay, it is not going to go, it is already part of our life,
even if people or governments want to lock us up in captivity, when it gets out
they will running into the virus, everyone, we are going to get infected sooner
or later, that is imminent, either by direct contagion or by a vaccine to
generate antibodies so that it impacts us to a lesser degree.
These days,
reflecting on the thinking of humanity regarding COVID-19 and the sanitary
rules that restrict the freedom to walk in the street or even against the right
to decent work, I wonder if it is correct or not.
I remember
the books and documentaries on the history of human evolution, and I realize
that these health regulations go against human nature, why do I say this? Well,
just look at how we have emerged as a society:
1. We
started out as nomads, migrating in search of resources
2. Despite
settling down, we continue to seek to improve our resources.
3. We begin
with the conquests of territories, discovery of new horizons, the discovery of
the "new world" occurs.
4. In our
veins, runs the blood of those who risked crossing oceans, as well as those who
gave their lives in defense of their heritage, settlers, Vikings, buccaneers,
explorers, hunters and gatherers, from those people we inherit hunger for
progress.
5. We continue
in search of exploring, we are already planning to colonize new planets, a
group of experts think how we are going to travel, others where, others how we
are going to live in these new frontiers, others how we are going to feed
ourselves, etc., we have a society thirsty for growth.
But today,
they ask us to go against all that "for a while until everything
passes" but there is the matter, this is not going to happen, it came to
stay and force us to "evolve".
No, I'm
sorry, but no, I'm not going to live in fear, I'm not going to lock myself up
waiting for "someone" to save humanity through a vaccine, especially
that the cure is in our hands:
1. Wash
your hands frequently.
2. Use
alcohol if necessary
3. Maintain
responsible hygiene measures.
We cannot
allow some to "live" by fleeing from the fear of a disease so that
others "die" of hunger due to the poverty generated by the fear of
going out to work.
That is
choosing what people are going to die of, and the truth is I don't know which
is more inhumane, letting someone run the risk of dying from a virus or letting
others suffer and starve, being unable to provide sustenance for their own.
Governments
increasingly increase their debts, which we are all going to have to pay, just
out of fear, for not getting ahead.
